Start of the Summer Season 2021

After a very wet week, and two days of ferocious winds, the weather remained predictably unkind for the opening of the grass court season at Rye LTC on the afternoon of Saturday 22nd May, resulting in the first tournament of the summer having to be played on the hard courts rather than the grass. Nevertheless, seven pairs braved the weather and were rewarded by a predominantly dry afternoon, despite the threatening storm clouds. Organised by coach Frances Candy, the format was a round robin with timed matches, which worked well, allowing all the games to be completed before retreating to the clubhouse for picnic teas. The matches were played in a good friendly spirit and enjoyed by both winners and losers.
