After the Wimbledon Championships, Rye was invited to field a team of four men and four ladies against the All England Lawn Tennis Club on their fine grass courts.

Clare Crawshay-Williams reports:

“Freddie Menzies and Jonny Leslie, both members of Rye and the AELTC, were playing for the All England. They really brought out the big guns (as a result of us beating them last year!) and neither Claire Myatt and I nor Amanda Hoffman and Sarah Walsh could get a game off their first pair. But then again Gill Brook had just returned from the Vets World Championships – having won! But they are always delightful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner – joined by Rye former president Chris Gorringe and his wife Jenny and current president Robert Dolman and his wife Lesley, also members of both clubs. We also hosted London’s Parsons Green Tennis Club at Rye during the summer and beat them soundly!”
