Play Your Way To Wimbledon

There was a better-than-ever turnout for the Junior Play Your Way to Wimbledon tournament, held at the Club on Sunday 16th April, a unique event open to all Rye LTC boys and girls under the age of eighteen.

Organised by coach Suzy Larkin, 34 Rye juniors came along on a sunny afternoon to do battle for the opportunity to play in a regional final and hopefully progress to a national final on the grass courts of Wimbledon.

In the U14 Singles, some tight matches saw William Wixley come through to win with Miles Boydell the runner-up while Esme Brady-Rogerson was the girls’ winner, for the second time, with Mischa Wixley the runner-up. In the U18 Doubles, Ollie Bearcroft and Daniel Hammond were the winners and Joshua Edmondson and Eddie Baxter runners-up while Freya Baxter and Mischa Wixley took the girls’ title just ahead of Tilly Taylor-Young and Grace Streeten.

Congratulations and thanks to all those who participated in the event this year. All the matches were played in good spirit and we will follow the winners as they progress on to the next stage of the competition, the county finals, in June and July.
